Laura Felley, UChicago Chapter, Wins AAAS Poster Contest
On February 16th, Daniel Choi (2nd year, Biophysics) and Laura Felley (3rd year, Biology and Psychology) were selected to attend the Triple Helix Poster session held at the AAAS conference in Boston along with students from Harvard, Brown, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Arizona State University, UC Berkeley, Cambridge and the National University of Singapore. Daniel presented a poster on his article "Knowledge Factories: Universities and the Shift Towards Marketplace Paradigms", which was the international cover of the Spring 2007 issue.
According to Triple Helix, Inc. CEO Manisha Battacharya, the deliberation after the poster session judging took hours, as the posters were excellent! The posters were scored in four categories: data versus anecdote, the quality of the presentation (both the oral presentation and the poster itself), the practicality of the idea, and the depth of knowledge. The five-member panel decided that Laura Felley (University of Chicago) was the winner, for her poster on "The Crusade Against MMR Vaccination".
Congratulations, Laura Felley, for winning the AAAS Poster Contest!
FernGully and Science Policy Event
The TTH@UChicago Science Policy Division announces it's first event of the Winter Quarter:
What: FernGully Screening and University Panel on Climate Change
When: Thursday, February 21st
Time: 7:00-9:00PM
Where: Harper 140
TTH@UChicago will be hosting a dual panel-screening of
Ferngully: The Last Rain Forest, the light-hearted but controversial 1992 film where the animated likes of Tim Curry, Christian Slater and Robin Williams color the story of haphazard consumption and pollution of the world's rain forests, and its colossal impact on the lives of fairies.
The screening will be complemented by the analytical insights of University of Chicago Professors David Archer of Environmental and Geophysical Sciences and David Weisbach of the Law School and Economics.
The TTH@UChicago will also be releasing its Winter 2008 issue at the screening, followed by a free dinner and dessert. All University and community members are welcome to attend.
Anyone interested in helping with this and future events should email Daniel Choi or Andrew Seeder at

UPDATE: Thanks to all who attended the fantastic talks given by Professor Archer and Professor Weisbach. Looks like everyone enjoyed the film as well!

Congratulations, UC Triple Helix, on receiving ORCSA's (Office of the Reynolds Club and Student Activities) Outstanding New RSO Award! ORCSA is comprised of over three hundred Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). The Outstanding New RSO Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a single new RSO each year. This award is presented to one exceptional RSO for its contributions to the campus community. The winner receives an award of $100, deposited into the RSO’s financial account and a plaque. The decision of the selection committee is based on the extent to which the RSO’s contribution exceeds what is normally expected of an active organization. Thanks for all your hard work!
Update: The University of Chicago Chronicle featured the Triple Helix at Uchicago as one of the most respected publications on campus because of this award. Read the article
